My partner Nicole and I have both been anxious to the point of dissociating since we were kids. But we didn't know each other then. We wrote this song together about how our constant worrying and worrying about worrying doesn't usually help, and in fact often gets in the way of our relationships with loved ones. Our phones, parents, politicians tell us to imagine the worst possible future, too, and it all gets swirled up in this anxious tornado that keeps us from being present with each other. But when we're performing love for each other? Everything just flows. Momentary grace we can ride like a wave. Love you bb.
lyrics
When we’re sleeping
I get up to check the lock
When we’re leaving
Back inside a dozen times
You’re trying to be patient
But I see you roll your eyes
Good can happen
I can be there when it does
Like when I’m singing to you
I know what’s in my hands
I’ve got a cat in my lap
The sun is streaming down
Like when I’m singing to you
And strum away intrusive thoughts
We could all be dead in an earthquake
But we could also not
Interrupting
the romance
Could you repeat what you just said?
Birds were chirping in my brain
I’m trying to keep records of the time
That we spend
But my phone is out of space
Momentary grace
Like when I’m singing to you
I know what’s in my hands
I’ve got a cat in my lap
The sun is streaming down
Like when I’m singing to you
The center of gravity in my room
I’m giving in like the tide to the moon
Trying to be in control every moment
Is not as effective as you would think
I’m letting myself go
Embracing what comes in the absence
I’m gonna ride it like a wave
So I can get back to you
I know what’s in my hands
I’ve got a cat in my lap
The sun is streaming down
Like when I’m singing to you
And strum away intrusive thoughts
I wonder what will be left
I think I’ll like it a lot
