Decomposure 04:25
The leaves in the trees They know it’s not the best to hang around But I wanna be the apple of your eye And not the one that fell to ground Because the light is fading You in slow motion I need a way out of this I want to denature it Sedan in the street I'm holding you and choking on the gas But I wanna breathe the flowers in my lungs I feel exhausted all the time Because the light is fading It’s already too late And when you come out of this I want to denature it

Universe, someone should tell them that I'm in the hall Universally discounted, I am on the pulse Whatever your thoughts about it, I don't fucking care When you're struggling to find them cuz your job's a bear When you'd rather be out with the flowers in your hair Universe, someone should tell them that I'm in the hall Universally discounted, I am on the pulse Whatever your thoughts about it, I don't fucking care When you're struggling to find them cuz your job's a bear They say the doors are open, come right, come right inside The sliding doors are closing yet they say the system's fine They say the doors are open, come right, come right inside The sliding doors might close on you, you slide down

Be Here Now 04:35
I was locking my bike up to the middle school fence When I remembered that I had left my lunch in my locker It had already gone bad, there was a terrible stench Other kids came around and they gestured and snickered In the basement of our house with my twin best friends We were just horsing around with their little brother And I guess I was feeling like he was being a little loud That was the only time I drew blood with my knuckles Be here now Because I can't throw anything away I'm a criminal I have stolen all of the things you said I spent every single second with them playing in their house On the other side of the pool in the compound And then Aaron's dad called my dad and he said "Why is it that your son is always in my house" My dad was shouting my name from upstairs with intent And telling me that I wasn't welcome over there "No one needs the guy that seems like he needs them And you should never go over again" Be here now Because I can't throw anything away I'm a criminal I have stolen all of the things you said Be here now Because I can't throw anything away I'm a criminal I have stolen all of the things you said Be here now Because I can't throw anything away I'm a criminal I have stolen all of the things you said

about

A dark pattern is "a user interface that has been carefully crafted to trick users into doing things, such as buying insurance with their purchase or signing up for recurring bills." [Harry Brignull]

Patterns in our behavior might make us exploitable, but they also make us deeply textured in a way that make it impossible for algorithms to fill our every need -- indeed, the more they try, the more they flatten out our peaks and valleys. My 9-5 customer support job and the expense of renting a practice studio in the Bay Area often has me composing and producing on the computer, but this EP saw me playing live with a band over the course of more than a year before recording. The result is a set of sounds that embodies the dynamic, scary vision of our natural selves against the backdrop of the tech vision of humanity as manipulable and flat consumers of content.
